Events
Our chapter has three main events each year: CANstruction, Concrete Canoe, and Steel Bridge. Concrete Canoe and Steel Bridge are the two main events that take place during the Carolinas Conference, a regional conference which happens every spring. For details and more photos, see the Conferences page. We also host other activities like social events and speakers.
CANstruction
CANstruction is an event in which we build a themed structure entirely out of food cans. The structure goes on display at the Marbles Kids Museum in Raleigh, NC, and the cans are later donated to a local food bank. Duke ASCE is the only all-student group to participate in this event.

Concrete Canoe
Concrete Canoe is a competition in which we design, build, and race a canoe out of light-weight concrete. The preparation for this competition involves testing concrete mixes, building a form, and even practicing paddling! Duke’s canoe, The S.S. Yoshi, won 3rd Place Overall at the 2008 Carolinas Conference.

Steel Bridge
Steel Bridge is a competition in which we design, fabricate, and construct a steel bridge. Bridges are judged based on lightness, stiffness, construction time, etc. This is a great opportunity for real-life design experience.
